Founded in 1926, China Institute in America is a nonprofit educational
and cultural institution that promotes the understanding, appreciation
and enjoyment of traditional and contemporary Chinese civilization,
culture and heritage and provides the cultural and historical context
for understanding contemporary China. China Institute offers programs,
activities, courses and seminars on the visual and performing arts,
culture, history, music, philosophy, language and literature. They
are appropriate for people of all ages and backgrounds, as well
as children’s programming, business and current affairs programs
and professional development programs for teachers.

Art Exhibitions
China Institute Gallery presents original and traveling exhibitions ranging from traditional Chinese paintings, calligraphy and objects to Chinese folk arts, textiles and architecture. Exhibitions are accompanied by catalogs and art education programs, such as gallery tours, lectures and symposia.
Classes
Experienced native faculty teach Mandarin language courses at all levels and studio classes in painting, calligraphy and taijiquan. Workshops for travelers and short courses on Chinese history, culture, philosophy, literature and society are offered on a regular basis.
Programs and Events
Distinguished speakers, writers and artists present lectures, book signings, performances, film screenings and more, interpreting the arts, culture, history and contemporary affairs of China.
Programs for Children
An after-school program for children from age three combines language learning with an introduction to the arts and culture of China. Parents can participate in special language classes paralleling the content of the children's classes and in special family workshops during the Chinese New Year.
Programs for Educators
K-12 educators interested in China -- its history, language and customs -- are invited to take advantage of professional development programs, including courses, study tours, curriculum development, and institutional membership.
Corporate Programs
The Corporate Programs Series offers a forum for an exchange of the most up-to-date information about U.S.-China commerce and investment and addresses the needs of those involved in U.S.-China business. Business people, scholars, journalists, lawyers and other professionals experienced in greater China share their insights to help Corporate Members and others position themselves for growth in China in the 21st century.
Corporate Services
Cultural Training and Business Chinese language instruction offer business people the understanding necessary to facilitate their contacts with Chinese, both in China and in the U.S. Cultural Training workshops address general societal and industry-specific issues regarding living and doing business in China and working with Chinese colleagues. These programs offer insight on language, managing an ethnic Chinese staff and developing a corporate culture in China.
