Brush Painting
Courses provide training in the fundamentals of traditional painting, its principles, techniques, subject
matter and style. Themes covered include landscapes, bird-and-flower paintings, insects and fish. Materials
are supplied for beginners at the first class only.

Sungsook Setton
Ms. Setton teaches the basics of Chinese brush painting. Students are trained to master brushstrokes
and taught the skill of capturing the essence of forms. Ms. Setton's subjects are wide-ranging and include
landscapes and plants.

Wednesdays, 12 - 3 PM
Zhang Zhan
Zhang Zhan introduces students to all the basic elements of Chinese brush painting. His specialty
is bird-and-flower painting and landscapes.
Starts April 12
Saturdays, 1:30 - 4:30 PM
Calligraphy
Students are taught the way of the brush and given an artistic and etymological introduction to China's
system of writing, which is an important key to understanding and appreciating Chinese art, history and
culture. Knowledge of Chinese or brush technique are not necessary. Materials are supplied for beginners at the first
class only.

Zhang Jiaxuan
Mr. Zhang focuses on learning and practicing basic brush strokes and characters in a meditative, relaxed
atmosphere. Classes often begin with a demonstration, followed by time for individual attention, allowing
students to learn at their own pace.
