CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE AT CHINA INSTITUTE
The Confucius Institute @ China Institute (CI@CI), created in 2006 by China Institute in partnership with East China Normal University (ECNU), is a leading provider of pedagogy and methodology training in teaching Mandarin Chinese.
CI@CI Mission: To provide professional development for Chinese language teachers through our programs and workshops, with a particular emphasis on helping pre-service and in-service teachers gain the credits and training needed to obtain New York State certification, as well as the cross-cultural skills and methodologies critical to success in teaching Chinese language and culture in American classrooms.
Programs we offer:
- Mandarin For Future Mandarin Teachers (MFMT): a scholarship-subsidized six-week summer professional development program based in Shanghai, China, designed in reference to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) certification requirements, with graduate-level credits offered by ECNU.
- CI@CI workshops: a series of New York City-based workshops offered throughout the academic year on critical topics of pedagogy or methodolgy.
- Online Community: a dynamic community for pK-12 educators to share best practices, and resources via www.China360online.org.
- Confucius Classroom at China Institute (CC@CI): a program that develops partnerships between China Institute and K-12 schools in the United States, providing funding, resources, and guidance to participating institutions.
CI@CI and the various programs it offers are made possible through the generous support of the Hanban (officially known as the "Office of Chinese Language Council International"), with additional support from other private and public foundations.
