China Institute Gallery |
|
SINCE its establishment in 1966 with an embarking
exhibition "Selections of Chinese art from private collections in
the Metropolitan Area," China Institute Gallery has presented over
80 highly focused exhibitions of Chinese painting, calligraphy, architecture,
decorative art, folk art, photography and textile curated by internationally
recognized scholars. China Institute Gallery remains New York's only
non-commercial exhibition space, other than the Metropolitan Museum
of Art, dedicated to exhibitions on traditional Chinese art, and as
New York Times art critic Holland Cotter stated in March 1999,
"immensely important ... is the contribution of the China Institute,
which every season mounts small-scale focused exhibitions of a kind
rarely seen in museums." With its renowned reputation for high quality
exhibitions, scholarly catalogs and innovative
art education programs, China Institute
Gallery has become an international unique resource for the general
public, scholars, students and connoisseurs to learn about Chinese
art and culture.
