China Institute offers a wide range of the Chinese language courses at every proficiency level, from beginner to advanced. We also offer language classes with a specialized focus on grammar, reading, speaking and writing.

An additional bonus to all registered students is our FREE Tutoring Office Hour program at our downtown headquarters. As an effort to provide extra opportunities for our students to practice Chinese Mandarin with native speakers, we offer a 45 minute one-on-one tutoring office hour throughout the semester while group classes are in session. During the tutoring sessions, trained and experienced language tutors interact closely with students to help with pronunciation, conversational skills, and review what has be taught in class.

This class is designed for students who are interested in studying Mandarin Chinese at a faster pace, i.e., completing Beginning Chinese 101, 102, and 103 in 10 weeks. Upon completion, a solid foundation will be established both in pronunciation (initials, vowels and most importantly, the tones) and fundamental knowledge of the Chinese characters. Students will be able to carry out conversations on daily activities and master about 200 Chinese words and expressions. The textbooks required for this course are Road to Success: Threshold and Lower Elementary, Vol. 1.

This course is designed for absolute beginners with little or no knowledge of Chinese Mandarin. This class will introduce the phonics of Chinese Mandarin, sounds and tones, using the pinyin Romanization system. Upon completion, students will be expected to establish a solid foundation in Chinese pronunciation (initials, vowels and most importantly, the tones). In addition, students will easily master about 80 basic Chinese characters, most of which are very commonly used to construct other characters. Students are also expected to be able to conduct short daily conversations, including greetings, expressing gratitude, and introducing oneself and others, etc. The textbook required for this course are Road to Success: Threshold.

As a tonal language, Chinese Mandarin is unique with its musical tones, syllabic melodies, rhythms and special pronunciation.

After studying Chinese for a good amount of time, you may still find it difficult to communicate with native speakers. Learning Chinese is not only mastering the consonants and vowels, but it is also about perfecting your tones and melody. Our featured and unique pronunciation and tones class will focus on improving your pronunciation through fun activities that include but not limited to the practice of tongue twisters, songs and poems, aided by TV shows and audio clips. Fluency and listening comprehension will also be emphasized as part of the expected goals.

This course is designed for students who have completed our Beginner level Chinese classes or at an equivalent level of lower intermediate proficiency.

The Intermediate Business Chinese is designed for those who have studied the Chinese language for two years in a structured classroom or tutoring settings or for learners with equivalent language proficiency.
