Friends of the Gallery is a group of devoted benefactors and art lovers who support the China Institute Gallery.

Established in 1966, the China Institute Gallery was the first nonprofit gallery in the United States to showcase Chinese art and culture exclusively and on a regular basis. Today, the Gallery is renowned for its intimate, first class thematic exhibitions, which are accompanied by scholarly catalogs that provide in-depth exploration of the subject. The Gallery provides a unique opportunity for Americans and people from around the world to appreciate both traditional and contemporary Chinese art and culture.

When you become a Friend of the Gallery, you will enjoy special events including members’ participation in opening celebrations of the Gallery’s exhibitions and meetings with leading scholars. We hold six events annually to bring Friends together to learn more about exhibitions, leading Chinese art collections, and other related subjects. Individual invitations will be sent for each event.
