On Friday, May 11, 2012 China Institute celebrated its annual Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street.
Each year, China Institute presents the Blue Cloud award to individuals whose achievements have reached great heights, and who have inspired others by promoting the understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture, history, language and contemporary issues.
This year we honored two extraordinary individuals: Chen Feng, Chairman of HNA Group, and, David Henry Hwang, playwright and librettist. Internationally acclaimed musician, Wu Tong, China Institute’s Musician of the Year honoree, added a special note to the evening by singing and playing the traditional sheng instrument.
The evening included a cocktail reception, dinner, the Blue Cloud award ceremony and dancing. With over 300 people in attendance, the Gala raised over 1.2 million in support of our Gallery and exhibition related Arts & Culture programs.
A special thank you to our honorees and supporters for making the evening a great success.
