Established in 2006, the Confucius Institute at China Institute ([email protected]) is the first Confucius Institute in New York City. In partnership with East China Normal University (ECNU), the most prestigious university focused on teacher education in China, [email protected] offers professional development opportunities for educators as well as programming for the general public that explores Chinese arts & culture.

[email protected] identifies best practices in teaching Chinese as a second language, provides high-quality courses and workshops to K-12 Chinese language teachers, and support Chinese language teachers to acquire and maintain teaching certification. Our professional development program, Mandarin for Future Mandarin Teachers (MFMT), brings teachers to Shanghai each summer; Plan for Better Teaching provides pedagogy courses for Chinese language teachers; Confucius Classroom at China Institute ([email protected]) develops partnerships between China Institute and K-12 schools in the United States. In addition [email protected] provides cultural activities and outreach programs open to both educators and the general public.
