Jiangnan (part of Jiangsu Province south of the Yangtze) is the famed Land of Plenty and Changshu, a quintessential Jiangnan city, boasts a civilisation spanning three millennia, placing it at the heart of the Wu culture. The pantheon of greats who have emerged from this blessed place is a who’s who of preeminent philosophers, scholars, calligraphers, painters, poets and writers.
The Changshu Culture Day brings you an original folk music concert, a lecture on Weng Tonghe, the Confucian scholar, imperial tutor and moralist of the Qing dynasty, and a presentation on the art of Changshu-style seal cutting. During the tea break, you can help yourself to rice cakes, osmanthus wine and other unmistakable Changshu delicacies.
A showcase of Changshu and its culture is right on your doorstep, an opportunity not to be missedt.
Guests of honour include: SUN Jian, director of communications, Changshu City Government; WU Wei, director of culture, Changshu City Government; ZHAO Bin, mayor of Old Town; and YAO Yuan, deputy chief curator, Weng Tonghe Memorial Museum.
This Lecture will be conducted in Chinese, with no interpretation.
