Targeted for hospitality, retail, service, and tourism industry professionals, this hour-long presentation will be led by Shenzhan Liao, Head of School of Chinese Studies, at China Institute.
The course will provide a concise overview of the calendar of Chinese holidays, with an eye towards in-the-know markers and references to enhance marketing and sales to the Chinese community both in the U.S. and China. With more in-depth knowledge, brands can take their outreach to the next level and do so in a culturally competent and sensitive manner.

Shenzhan Liao, Head of School, China Institute
Ms. Liao is Head of School at China Institute and Dean of Confucius Institute at China Institute. Ms. Liao graduated with an M.ED. in Anthropology and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, after receiving an M.A. in Comparative Education from Beijing Normal University, China. Ms. Liao joined China Institute in 2008 to manage professional development for Chinese language teachers, and since then has worked extensively with K-12 schools, universities, governmental agencies and private institutions in the U.S. and China on programs promoting cross-cultural understanding. In her current position at China Institute, Ms. Liao oversees all educational programs including language learning for children and adults, as well as professional development for K-12 educators. Ms. Liao served as a member of the Alumni Council at Columbia University’s Teachers College from 2014-2019.
