Drawing and Dim Sum for Children: A Dim Sum Warriors DOODLE DATE

August 14 @ 10:00 am - 10:45 am

A special, free virtual event for children—brought to you by China Institute in proud partnership with Dim Sum Warriors!

The Dim Sum Warriors team shares their innovative approach to language learning in this free online event—participants suggest illustrating prompts for the cartoonist and everyone draws together while picking up new Chinese vocabulary.

We will focus on a theme of “FOOD WITH FEELINGS,” so start thinking of some food you like (or don’t like), and the emotions they elicit in you- be prepared to draw them together!

AND: Participants receive a FREE 6-month subscription to the Dim Sum Warriors App—packed with hilarious bilingual stories, vocabulary-boosting games, voice-recording functions, and tech that gives feedback on pronunciation and fluency!

Dr Yen Yen Woo and Colin Goh are the creators of Dim Sum Warriors 点心侠®, a unique patent-pending approach to language-learning for kids that blends comics, language learning, tech and adorable dumplings! Their method has been independently certified for pedagogical quality by Education Alliance Finland, one of the world’s leading edtech impact verification agencies.

They also created a Dim Sum Warriors graphic novel series about kung fu-fighting dumplings (now published by Scholastic Asia) which they adapted for a stage musical with music by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Du Yun.

Yen Yen obtained her doctorate from Columbia University‘s Teachers College, and has worked as a professor at Long Island University in New York and National Central University in Taiwan, specializing in curriculum development as well as multimedia production.

Colin graduated from Columbia University Law School and is a qualified attorney with qualifications in New York, Singapore and England. He is also a professional cartoonist whose work includes the New York Times bestsellers Search Inside Yourself and Joy On Demand.

Zeyu Feng, Educational Specialist at China Institute, will facilitate the Chinese language learning throughout the program.
