A legendary historical figure in the Three Kingdom period (220-280), Zhuge Liang (181-234) is recognized as the most accomplished and admired military strategist of his era, first as the chancellor to Emperor Liu Bei of the state of Shu and later as the regent of the Kingdom. Lauded and deified over the last 1800 years, Zhuge has become a favored character of many Chinese plays and stories and his name is synonymous with wisdom and intelligence.
As a recognition of his contributions to Shu, Zhuge Liang was granted by the emperor the title of “Wuxiang Hou” (Marquis Wuxiang) in his lifetime. After his death, a memorial temple by the name of Wuhou Shrine was built in the city of Chengdu, the capital of Shu, to honor him. The shrine is one of Chengdu’s major attractions and houses numerous statues to Emperor Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang and other generals and officials of the Shu Kingdom. Over the centuries, the shrine has been visited by numerous statesmen and poets, who have left many inscriptions and eulogies. The Wuhou Shrine was turned into a full-scale museum in 1984, serving as a major Three Kingdom heritage site and research center.
On March 26, the Renwen Society presents a lecture by Mr. Li Zhi, Chief Docent of the Wuhou Shrine Museum, who will relate to the audience stories of Zhuge Liang and the famed shrine.
In his capacity as the Chief Docent of the museum, Mr. Li has received many awards and appeared on many feature programs on TV. In 2020, he was named one of “The Top Ten Narrators of National Treasures of China”.
Mr. Li will be delivering the lecture from within the Wuhou Shrine Museum.

“丞相祠堂何处寻，锦官城外柏森森。映阶碧草自春色，隔叶黄鹂空好音。”——公元761年，“诗圣”杜甫造访成都武侯祠时，曾留下脍炙人口的诗句，歌咏千秋古祠，赞颂中华民族智慧化身诸葛亮。
无独有偶，五十年后中国历史上另外一位著名的宰相裴度，也在这座千秋古祠，留下了赞颂诸葛亮的绝妙碑文——《蜀丞相诸葛武侯祠堂碑》。在他笔下，诸葛亮是中国古代唯一一个具有“侍君之节”“开国之才”“立身之道”“治人之术”的近乎完美的智慧人物。
诚然，论“侍君之节”，诸葛亮受托孤之重，挽狂澜于既倒，扶大厦之将倾。将精锐丧尽的蜀汉王朝，重新拉出了夷陵战败的阴霾，在秋风星落五丈原之际，他履行了人臣之节，鞠躬尽力死而后已！
论“开国之才”，他辅佐刘备，运筹帷幄，连吴抗魏，取荆州，夺益州，纵横天地。硬生生把一个濒临败亡的刘备集团，扶持成和曹操、孙权两大豪强分庭抗礼的强大势力。
至于其“立身之道”、“治人之术”更是贯穿在诸葛亮一生修身、齐家、治国、平天下的过程中，无不闪耀着卓越不凡的智慧光芒。
也正是因为斯人有如此风采，才得以名垂青史，万古流芳。而武侯祠也千载传承诠释了诸葛武侯之遗风遗德，也得以千秋百代，熠熠生辉。
追古思今，这座久负盛名的三国圣地距今已有近1800年的历史，它饱经沧桑洗礼，却风采更胜往昔。四海观众纷至沓来，络绎不绝，足见今人对诸葛亮这位三国时期的重要历史人物的深深追思与渴慕之情。
