The annual event celebrates and encourages artistic inspiration in the spirit of celebrated calligraphy sage Wang Xizhi’s famous gathering with his poet friends at Orchid Pavilion in Kuaiji (today’s Shaoxing in Zhejiang Province) in 353 CE and created the most famous calligraphy work of “The Preface of Orchid Pavilion” in running script. The Orchid Pavilion Gathering has been considered the epitome of a cultured and elegant life ever since, please join us for an inspiring afternoon and let our exhibition Art in a Time of Chaos take you back to the time of Wang Xizhi and his literati friends.
Willow Weilan Hai, Gallery Director and Chief Curator of Art in a Time of Chaos: Masterworks from Six Dynasties China, 3rd-6th Centuries will offer tours in Chinese and English on the topic of “Why Six Dynasties?”
