Pieces of China: Episode 8: Zak Dychtwald on the song that rocked China

July 23 @ 12:00 pm - 12:15 pm

| Free

Pieces of China is an online series that tells the story of China, one object at a time.

Learn what one viral music video tells us about the angst among many young Chinese today with Zak Dychtwald, CEO of Young China Group. The band “Real Guys,” or Jiulian Zhenren (九连真人), stunned the reality show audience with a heart-rending song, “Don’t Underestimate Youth,” (莫欺少年穷), about a father and son arguing about the future. The song exemplifies what Zak calls “cool with Chinese characteristics.”

Zak Dychtwald is the founder and CEO of Young China Group, a think tank and consultancy focusing on China’s emerging identity on the world stage and the evolving East and West millennial mindset. He is the author of Young China: How the Restless Generation Will Change Their Country and the World, which explores how the country’s young generation, born after 1990, feels about everything.

Explore the full roster of guests in our Pieces of China series of free, online conversations.

This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department Of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
