No school? No problem! New York City public schools are closed for Chinese New Year and China Institute offers a fun day of cultural programming!
On February 5 from 9 AM to 3 PM China Institute will be running a Day Care Camp – an immersive and interactive program for children aged 2-14. Campers will have an opportunity to learn and enjoy various traditional activities and customs including calligraphy, Chinese Go and games, arts and crafts, storytelling and cooking.
Cheer on the New York Knicks as they go up against the Detroit Pistons on February 5 at 7:30 PM.
The Year of the Pig will be recognized with various in-game elements, giveaways, merchandise and special food selections throughout the arena! Special pricing for friends of China Institute. We will also be recognized on the in-game screens!
All ages are invited to celebrate the Lunar New Year learning the fun and challenging game of Go which originated in China over 4,000 years ago with the Battery Park City Authority in Lower Manhattan. Led by champion Go players from China Institute, this talk and hands-on workshop will guide participants through the history and general play of the game. Register for free online to participate.
On February 7, China Institute hosts our annual Chinese New Year Gala at Hwa Yuan Szechuan Restaurant.
The event will feature award-winning Chinese cuisine and scrumptious dessert buffet as well as bespoke new year Remy XO cocktails by LUCKYRICE, a traditional lion dance and raffles for Hamilton: An American Musical tickets with backstage tour!
Participate and get a taste of authentic Chinese culture, including dumpling making, lantern-making, face painting, Music at China Institute workshops, New Year treats, games, and a special music performance by the Stephanie Chou Trio.
In-Store Activations at The Oculus at Westfield World Trade Center, February 1-12
In partnership with select retailers throughout Westfield World Trade Center,, China Institute will provide family-friendly activities from February 1 through February 12. To help educate and celebrate, China Institute will offer a full schedule of programming and performances ranging from, musical performances, calligraphy and Chinese GO lessons, brush painting demonstrations, curated cocktails courtesy of Moutai, and Chinese business etiquette seminars.
Participating stores include Boss, Sugarfina, & Other Stories, Pandora. London Jewelers, Longines, Pure Wine & Spirits, and Toytoise.
